Coyote Alert

By John Ford - Posted on 29 November 2009

Be aware that at about 6:15 a.m. on November 27th, I had a coyote on my driveway, which ran off into Orlando Park as soon as he saw me looking back.

I suggest that small animals like cats be kept indoors at night, and that you keep small children close to you when around the greenspace.

This is the second sighting I've made of a coyote in the last couple of months. The previous one was on the bike path from Brookfield Rd. across the railway tracks, so they're establishing themselves in our local greenspace.

[update]

I've spoken to neighbours who have reported sightings. One watched a coyote chase a cat under a car on Orlando Ave. and another spoke to a contractor who was working at a house on Grace who watched a coyote in the greenspace south of Grace.

There aren't too many predators around that could tear a rabbit in half, but that's what I found on the driveway yesterday. Most likely from a coyote.

I repeat the warning to keep small animals indoors or close.
